coaching CASE STUDY: anne’S STORY

My Challenge

Whilst I appear outwardly confident, and have many times been called “scary”, recently, I have been lacking in confidence; questioning my decisions and choices and even the smallest set back has led to me judge myself and others negatively.

How we worked together

Although a little sceptical at first, I soon realised Richard’s immense talent to listen and unpick scenarios was exactly what I needed! Richard started by asking me to complete a Strengths and Values survey and this has been one of best things I have undertaken, as the results were so enlightening. During all our sessions Richard encouraged me to go back and reflect on these, to affirm who I am, what I believe in and what motivates me. Once we had established that I really am capable, we moved onto more immediate challenges in my role and how I could make the efficiencies to working practise and share my vision with the Board and staff. What I have really appreciated is Richard’s flexibility and commitment to supporting everything that I have thrown at him.

What I've learnt

I have learnt to consider how I share my thoughts and have been able, with Richard’s support, to deliver my vision for the organisation in a professional and persuasive way. I have learnt that I am valued and a very capable leader and that I really do care about what I do and the people I work with.

The outcome from my coaching

I have re-gained my confidence and I hardly ever negatively question myself. If I do, I can now get out of that negative cycle myself. I have also reclaimed a healthy work life balance. Recently I presented a defined vision to the board, which included new working practises and strategic insights; these were immediately approved and I was naturally delighted. For the first time in my career I have felt confident to ask for a large pay increase!
